PLAYING TUNES ON THE CARILLON, CLIMBING THE WALLS OF THE NEVA PANORAMA
The Peter and Paul Cathedral is well seen from many places of the city. It is no surprise, because it was the tallest building in the old Petersburg. Its height is 122.5 meters. During the tour around the Peter and Paul Fortress, you will have a unique opportunity to climb the bell tower of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, which is inaccessible to most visitors. The panoramic view will take your breath away! You must see it with your own eyes, because no photos can convey an amazing feeling of soaring above the city. First, you will get to the height of 16 meters, and then higher -24 meters. You will learn how the angel was mounted on the spire of the Cathedral, see the mechanism of ancient chimes and hear the bells. Apart from church bells, the bell tower has an unusual musical instrument called carillon. You will not only see it, but also hear a melodic chime of old bells.
The Peter and Paul Fortress has another observation deck -the Neva Panorama, which is located above the water surface of the Neva. You will walk along wooden walkways along the roof of the fortress wall from the Emperor’s to the Naryshkinbastion and see the guns which make a midday shot. You will enjoy one of the best panoramic views of the historical center of St. Petersburg: the Palace Embankment and the Spit of VasilyevskyIsland, the Trinity and Palace Bridges, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Admiralty.

You will also see the world famous Amber Room. The Amber Room was stolen during World War II. For its reconstruction in 1981 special amber restoration workshops were opened. Visiting the restoration workshops, you will learn about the nature of this living sunny gem and complexity of its processing, how amber panels were restored and created by using black and white photographs.
